The rule will also prevent corruption.
With the aim of bringing transparency in MNREGA, there is going to be a major change in the system of workers' attendance. The system of marking attendance through face, approved by the Union Rural Development Ministry, is going to start soon. Ministry sources said that many types of irregularities were coming to light at the Panchayat level in the work being done under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Such as getting payment in connivance with the people of the Panchayat by marking attendance without doing any work, showing old works as new works, uploading old photos of workers on the app, etc.
The training process is complete
With the objective of stopping all these malpractices and making MNREGA as transparent as possible, the ministry has decided to make radical changes in the system of workers' attendance. Under this, soon the workers' attendance will be recorded through their faces using a mobile app.
Sources said that the pilot projects run in many parts of the country have been successful. Not only this, the training of volunteers using the mobile app at the local level has also been completed. Sources said that the ministry is preparing the standard operating procedure (SOP) for this and these are in the final stage.

As soon as the SOP is ready, it will be shared with the states and after this the work of 'attendance through face' will start across the country. Amit, Pradhan of Malkapura village in Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh, said that this is a welcome step but we cannot completely depend on technology.
Along with this technology, human intervention and decentralization of powers is also necessary. He said that restoration of powers of Gram Panchayat is also necessary. Gram Panchayat was to be strengthened under MNREGA but Gram Rozgar Sevak and other workers are creating obstacles in this work.
